Dakota Culture & Urban Ecology Walk

On February 11 at 11:00 AM, join us in Minneapolis for a tour with Owámniyomni guide Barry Hand to learn about Dakota values, the significance of the River and the Mni Sota Dakota Tribes’ vision for cultural and environmental restoration of the area.
Owámniyomni is the Dakota term for St. Anthony Falls.

The Beyond Land Acknowledgment Committee is thrilled that we could arrange this event with the Dakota-led Owámniyomni Okhódayapi organization. Visit their website at owamniyomni.org to learn more.

Our guide, Barry Hand (Oglala Sioux), has been working in the Twin Cities American Indian community for most of his adult life. He taught Lakota/Dakota language at Harding Sr. High School, Bdote Learning Center, North Hennepin Community College and the University of Minnesota. Most recently he served as the Language and Culture Coordinator for Prairie Island Indian Community PIIC.

We will meet at the Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis at 11:00 A.M for an outdoor walking tour of about 45 minutes. Transportation is not provided (carpooling recommended).

The cost is $15 per person – scholarships are available upon request. Advance registration and prepayment are required.
An alternate snow date, if needed, is February 13.
